COURSE REQUIREMENTS

SEX EDUCATION & CLINICAL SEXOLOGY

These modules prepare professionals to answer sexual questions and provide relevant sex education to their respective clientele. The required 300 hours of credit will focus on sex education videos, the history of sexology, developmental sexology through the life span, socio-cultural implications of sexology, sexual anatomy and physiology, health perspectives, sexual dysfunctions, legal and ethical issues, and erotology. They will include videotape courses and textbooks which the student will keep for further use, and a comprehensive work book of monographs, the SAR Guide for a Better Sex Life, personal exercises, and self testing forms.

MEDICAL SEXOLOGY: HIV/STDs and SOCIAL EPIDEMIOLOGY FOR SEXOLOGISTS
The student must demonstrate competence in knowledge concerning HIV / STDS. This information may be acquired through guided readings, or the student may take Course #350 (STD's: A Sexological Health Perspective), a four day, three unit practicum in San Francisco. Social Epidemiology for Sexologists is presented via a video course which introduces the basic terms and techniques of descriptive epidemiology used by social epidemiologists in a sexological context. An overview of quantitative, qualitative, and ethnographic methods employed by social epidemiologists is provided through articles selected for analysis and review. The student must also document readings in Public Administration.

EROTOLOGICAL STUDY
Erotological study is also required for this degree. The student must complete survey course (15 trimester units - 500 contact hours) that looks at our erotic heritage for the 20th century. Its purpose is to expose the student to various forms of expression that make up our past, present, and undoubtedly our future erotological heritage, and to provide him/her with the knowledge to carry out competent erotological analysis. Included among the materials required for this module are books, poster art, fine art reproductions, press books, video tapes, audio tapes, and references to Internet web sites. There is also a bibliography and a list of other recommended materials which the students may choose from to flesh out compliance with the requirements for this course. Workbooks, text, videos, and/or discs are provided for each student to develop their own library. Students are expected to retain all materials provided to them. A project report is required and this may consist of the cross-cultural program.

SAR or Master Project
Students must complete a Masters Project or Course #311, the Sexual Attitude Restructuring (SAR) experience, which is offered each June in San Francisco for the cross-cultural experience.


RESOURCES

The greatest achievement of the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality has been in the development of the professional library of source materials which is the culmination of 25 years of archival research and painstaking efforts to obtain the rights to the reproduction of film, and other materials for our students use. Much has not been seen in decades, such as films which were made in 1915. Topics covered in the materials developed for the Master of Public Health program are: socio-cultural implications of sexology, erotology, sexual anatomy and physiology, sexual concerns and their treatment, the sexual spectrum, legal and ethical issues, health perspectives, epidemiology.
The material included in the educational package includes 143 video tapes, four audio tapes, three workbooks, and numerous text books. There are three additional books required and they are available through amazon.com.

COSTS & REGISTRATION

The tuition for the entire MPH program including the personal professional library, and access to the library and research resources and material at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco is $13,500. This tuition is payable in two consecutive trimester installments of $6,500 commencing with the student's enrollment in the program.
